Who is the Sierra Front Recreation Coalition?

about us We are your friends and neighbors -- an active collaborative of public agencies, businesses, nonprofits, and individuals from Nevada and California - all committed to the Sierra Front. We have joined forces because we love the trails, rivers, and recreational opportunities throughout this region, but recognize that they need our support. With rapid growth in the area, we want to ensure that residents' quality of life, the stewardship of our natural areas, and the visitor experience tied to outdoor recreation will be world-class. The Sierra Front Recreation Coalition is working to bridge the ever-widening gap between growing outdoor recreation demand and the flat recreation budgets used to manage our public lands.

After coming together in 2000, the SFRC helped produce a map of recreation opportunities in the region: Lake Tahoe and Beyond the Rim: 101 Recreation Opportunities. This effort required a memorandum of understanding between thirty different organizations and agencies, and helped establish the need and value of a coalition like Sierra Front. Since then, SFRC has become a successful 501 (c)3 nonprofit with an active and influential Board of Directors and a paid staff person. SFRC is successful in creating public private partnerships to raise funds for new projects. We host trail volunteer meetings and help sponsor TRTA's Trails Training and Leadership Conferences. We work to support efforts to expand and enrich our recreational amenities and build new trails, such as the Reno to Rim Trail. And we continue to expand our presence on the internet by building and maintaining an award winning web site, with a user friendly Trails and Recreation page documenting over 50 great local recreational activities and other great information.
