Recreation and Adventure - Beaches

 Hidden Beach

Between Incline Village and Sand Harbor, Nevada, is one of this area’s best known secrets. For those seeking privacy and seclusion, Hidden Beach is the place. There are no restrooms, no picnic facilities or playgrounds, fire pits or BBQ grills, and no dogs are permitted. The upside is… it’s free.
Numerous small trails lead down to the large boulders available for sunning and swimming from this nearly one-mile stretch of Hwy. 28 just south of Incline Village. There’s not much parking on the side of the road, so there shouldn’t be too many folks there. But many locals know it’s not very far from town and the walk there and back is manageable, and that on some summer days Hidden Beach fills up quickly.

D.L. Bliss State Park

D.L. Bliss State Park has about a mile and a half of beach. There are numerous places for swimming and jumping off of boulders, and the sands are excellent for sunbathing. The terrain is varied, and there are many hiking trails. The park has more than 160 camping sites, which require reservations, and it is a favorite spot for anchoring a boat.
D.L. Bliss State Park is near Emerald Bay. For more information, call (800) 444-7275.

Commons Beach

Located in Tahoe City, Commons Beach holds a wide variety of summer events, including a weekend concert series, farmers market, crafts fairs, and outdoor movies. There is a large playground for children, parking, a large lawn area and plenty of shallow water to play in.

Kings Beach

Kings Beach is a large beach that hosts numerous outdoor recreation opportunities. Rentals are available, such as jet skis, paddle boats, sailboats and kayaks, and parasailing is available for the adventurous. If staying closer to the water is your preference, boating tours of the lake and plenty of restaurants are available within walking distance of the beach. There’s a small boat ramp at Coon Street for small craft, such as for jet skis.

West End Beach

Located at Donner Lake in Truckee, West End Beach offers plenty to do. There are group picnic areas, volleyball courts, a playground, parking for boats, a covered pavilion, tennis court, horseshoe pits, and plenty of recreation rentals, including kayaks and paddle boats. There are some good places for fishing and plenty of sandy beach for just soaking up the Sierra sunshine.
Contact the Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District at (530) 582-7720 for information on reservations and admission charges.

Sand Harbor

On Hwy. 28, about 4 miles south of Incline Village, Sand Harbor is one of the most popular beaches at Lake Tahoe, and it fills up very early

Spooner Lake

Located at Hwy. 50 and Hwy. 28, Spooner Lake is a favorite of fishermen and hikers. Restrooms and handicap restrooms are available, and picnic facilities with fire pits and BBQ grills are provided. Dogs must be leashed. Fees are seasonal.
