Hobart Creek Reservoir

Hobart Creek Reservoir is in the Carson City area, 5 miles west of the capital. The best time of the year is May through September. This is a very popular place to take children and beginning anglers. Hobart is 10 acres in surface and 15 feet deep. Four miles of extremely rough, 4WD dirt road, plus an additional 1.25-mile hike is required to get there. Brook trout (lots), rainbow and cutthroat trout. Not many big fish, but abundant and easily caught. The Truckee River offers year-round fly fishing, easy access, and a true challenge. The Truckee River flows north and east from Lake Tahoe to the town of Truckee, CA. This is where the good fishing begins. It continues on through Reno and from there flows another 35 miles to Pyramid Lake. Rainbow and brown trout, and occasional cutthroat and brook trout. There are special regulations in Nevada and California sections of the river, and the best time of year is May to mid-October. Check the regulations before adventuring.
