Carson River, East Fork is located near Markleeville, CA. The season is year-round and the best time is May through October.
Rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout. Mountain whitefish. Brook trout in tributaries. Good dry fly, nympth, and streamer fishing.

Hobart Creek Reservoir

Hobart Creek Reservoir is in the Carson City area, 5 miles west of the capital. The best time of the year is May through September.
This is a very popular place to take children and beginning anglers. Hobart is 10 acres in surface and 15 feet deep. Four miles of extremely rough, 4WD dirt road, plus an additional 1.25-mile hike is required to get there.
Brook trout (lots), rainbow and cutthroat trout. Not many big fish, but abundant and easily caught.

Jackson Meadows & Milton Reservoirs

Jackson Meadows and Milton Reservoirs are 25 miles north of Truckee, CA.  The best time of the year is May through October.
Both lakes hold healthy populations of rainbow and brown trout, with the occasional cutthroat.

Martis Creek Lake is a 70-acre lake located about 4 miles south of Truckee, CA. It is an extremely easy lake to get to.
Rainbow and brown trout, and some cutthroat. Best time of the year is May through October, especially in May/June and again in October.

Spooner Lake is located at Spooner Summit at the east Lake Tahoe junction of Hwy. 50 and Hwy. 28, which travels north along the east shore to Incline Village. 
Mostly rainbow and brown trout, and occasional large cutthroat trout. Spooner Lake offers easy access for families and young anglers. Best time of the year is April through October, but especially June and July.

Stampede, Boca and Prosser Creek Reservoirs are located 10 miles from Truckee, CA and 20 miles from Reno, NV.
All three lakes hold healthy populations of rainbow and brown trout. Boca and Stampede have kokanee salmon. Best time of the year is April through November, but especially in May and September.

Truckee River

The Truckee River offers year-round fly fishing, easy access, and a true challenge. The Truckee River flows north and east from Lake Tahoe to the town of Truckee, CA. This is where the good fishing begins. It continues on through Reno and from there flows another 35 miles to Pyramid Lake.
Rainbow and brown trout, and occasional cutthroat and brook trout. There are special regulations in Nevada and California sections of the river, and the best time of year is May to mid-October. Check the regulations before adventuring.
