Recreation and Adventure - Parks

Ambrose Park

Location: River Lane, Reno. Contact Truckee River District Ranger at (775) 828-6612.
Ambrose Park offers parking and fishing access to the Truckee River. Day use only. Excellent spot for birding and seeing occasional wildlife, such as beaver and deer.


Anderson Park

Location: Del Monte Lane near Davis Lane. Contact Truckee River District Ranger at (775) 828-6612.
Anderson Park holds 70 acres of ranchland. It has hiking and equestrian trails. There is a 2-acre picnic area in the south and a 4-acre picnic area in the north.


Bartley Ranch Regional Park

Location: 6000 Bartley Ranch Road, Reno.  Contact Truckee River District Ranger at (775) 828-6612.
Bartley Ranch Regional Park features 56 acres of pasture and walking trails, a regulation size horse arena and warmup area, the Western Heritage Interpretive Center, and the Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater. Additional facilities include the Flying B Group Pic
nic Area, Huffaker Picnic Area, last Chance Picnic Area, Historic Huffaker School, and the Plaza Picnic Pavillion.


Bowers Mansion Regional Park

Location: 4005 US Highway 395 North, Carson City.  Contact Mount Rose District Ranger at (775) 849-1825.
Bowers Mansion is located in the center of the park and provides a rare view into life in Nevada in the 1860’s. There is a large outdoor swimming pool there.


Burton Creek State Park

Location: Tahoe City area.
Burton Creek State Park has 2,000 acres and includes 6 miles of unpaved road available for hiking in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter. The Tahoe Cross-Country Ski Area provides 62km of groomed ski trails.


Camp Richardson

Location: Southwest shore Lake Tahoe.
Historic Camp Richardson Resort is the closest resort to Emerald Bay and is the gateway to Desolation Wilderness. There is a full service marina with abundant water sports equipment rentals (see Boating and Water Sports) and water ski and parasailing schools. There is a pier with fuel station and launching and mooring facilities, and the resort’s Mountain Sports Center offers bike rentals. Guided equestrian trail rides are offered and riding lessons are available at the Camp Richardson Corral. There are 300 campsites, a historic hotel, the Beacon Bar & Grill on the edge of the lake, and lakefront cabins.


Commons Beach Park

Location: Downtown Tahoe City, CA.
Commons Beach Park has more than 4 acres on the lake and is a popular swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking area with BBQ facilities. There is a children’s playground and play area, and a lakeside bike trail.


Crystal Peak Park

Location: Old Highway 40, Verdi. Contact Truckee River District Ranger at (775) 828-6612.
Crystal Peak Park is ten miles west of Reno and features 56 acres of large shade trees along the river with restrooms. Parking lots and roads are paved and offer direct access to the river. There are 5 picnic areas and 2 small group areas.


Davis Creek Regional Park

Location: U.S. 395 South on west side of Washoe Valley.
This park is in the Mt. Rose District and has 62 overnight campsites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Picnic and group camping facilities require a reservation. Contact the park ranger for group camping arrangements or the Parks Administration office for group picnic reservations.
An equestrian trail provides access to the Toiyabe National Forest.


D.L. Bliss State Park

Location: Hwy. 89, South Lake Tahoe, near Emerald Bay.
D.L. Bliss has miles of Lake Tahoe shoreline, more than 160 camping sites, about a mile and a half of sandy beach, and lots of lookouts. The park offers many hiking trails, as well as campsites for groups and RVs, shower facilities, and a boat ramp.

Dorostkar Park

Location: Mayberry Drive. Contact Truckee River District Ranger at (775) 828-6612.
Dorostskar Park is located along the Truckee River and is adjacent to the east of the Mayberry Underpass. There are 3 picnic tables, parking, a paved bike path, a nature trail with interpretive signs, and access to the river. The park is popular with bikers, hikers, dog walkers and fishermen.


Galena Creek Regional Park

Location: 18350 Mt. Rose Highway in the Mount Rose District. Contact Mount Rose District Ranger at (775) 849-1825.
A very popular year-round park for hiking in the Sierra Front along Galena, White’s and Jones Creeks in the summer, and for sledding, cross-country skiing and snow shoeing in the winter.


Hidden Valley Regional Park

Location: 4740 Parkway Drive, Reno. Contact the Truckee River District Ranger at (775) 828-6612.
Hidden Valley Regional Park features 415 undeveloped acres, with a large horse arena and announcer’s stand and grandstand area, a warmup arena, a covered group picnic area and individual picnic areas, restrooms, tennis courts, a soccer and baseball practice field, volleyball court, and playground. Trails for hiking, biking, and equestrian use are available.

Kilner Park

Location: 3.5 miles south of Tahoe City off of Hwy. 89.
Kilner Park is a wooded 7-acre park adjacent to the west shore bike trail. There is a children’s playground, sand volleyball court, walking and biking trails, restrooms, lighted tennis courts, and picnic tables.


Kinks Beach State Recreation Area 

Location: Kings Beach, CA.
Kings Beach State Recreation Area has 700 feet of lakeshore and is a popular water sports spot in the summer. Day use only.


Lake Forest Beach Park

Location: Lake Forest, CA near Tahoe City.
Lake Forest Beach Park is located at the end of Bristlecone Avenue in Lake Forest. There is a campground and is an excellent area for swimming, bird watching, wind surfing, and picnicking.


Lazy 5 Regional Park

Location: 7100 Pyramid Lake Hwy., Spanish Springs.  Contact Pah Rah District Ranger at (775) 424-1866.
Lazy 5 Regional Park is located in the Spanish Springs Valley and was named for the ranch that was previously in the area. Facilities include 3 picnic pavilions, 4 Water Park Party pavilions, a regulation soccer field and the Cottonwood Room.  Contact the district ranger for more information and reservations.


Mayberry Park on the Truckee River 

Location: Woodland Avenue, Reno. Contact the Truckee River District Ranger at (775) 828-6612.
Mayberry Park on the Truckee River is a day-use only park facility with 10 individual picnic sites, a group picnic area, a paved bike path, and access to fishing on the Truckee River. Bird Watching (birding) at this park is a local favorite. The park is Handicap accessible and is located off Woodland Avenue four miles west of Reno.


North Valleys Regional Park

Location: 8085 Silver Lake Road, Stead (Reno).  Contact the Peavine District Ranger at (775) 971-8566.
The North Valleys Regional Park is north of Reno in Stead and provides grand views of the high desert on its160 acres. The park offers a large community center, 2 volleyball courts, 6 youth soccer fields, a playground area for children, picnic areas, a skateboard park, and plenty of hiking trails. The community center building is available for rental and more information is available by calling the Parks Administration at (775) 823-6501.
Additional facilities include Patio/BBQ area, a regulation soccer field, a concession area and youth baseball fields.


Rancho San Rafael Regional Park

Location: 1595 North Sierra St., Reno. Contact the Peavine District Ranger at (775) 785-4512.
Rancho San Rafael Regional park offers both dusty sagebrush trails and a wetland habitat.

Sand Harbor

Location: Sand Harbor, NV 4 miles south of Incline Village.
Sand Harbor offers sandy beaches and rocky coves, and it is probably the most beautiful beach at Lake Tahoe. There are shallow waters for swimming and numerous boulders for climbing around on, and is a popular kayaking spot. There is a boat launch and kayak rentals, picnic areas with tables and a BBQ, and a group use area that accommodates up to 100 people.
The Sand Point Nature Trail has interpretive signs.

64-Acres Park

Location: Tahoe City, CA.
64-Acres Park offers picnicking, parking, and provides access to the lake bike trail and the Truckee River.


Skylandia Park

Location: Lake Forest, CA northeast of Tahoe City.
Skylandia Park offers 24 acres located on Lake Forest Road with picnic tables, a swimming area, beach, pier, and bike and hiking trails.


South Valleys Regional Park

Location: 15650 Wedge Parkway, Reno. Contact the Mount Rose District Ranger at (775) 823-6501.
South Valleys Regional Park is located in south Reno with nearby access from Arrow Creek Parkway or Mt. Rose Highway and offers 2 reservable picnic pavilions, 3 soccer fields, paved parking and a lighted Little League four-plex. Permits are required for the fields.

Sugar Pine Point State Park

Location: West Shore of Lake Tahoe 10 miles south of Tahoe City.
Sugar Pine Point includes more than 2,000 acres of forest. General Creek is open for fishing from mid-July to mid-September. There are 175 campground sites, miles of hiking trails, and a beach for swimming. Tours of the Ehrman Mansion built in 1903 are available, also a Nature Center.


Zephyr Cove

Location: Zephyr Cove, NV near South Lake Tahoe.
Zephyr Cove is considered to be a recreational paradise for people of all ages. Zephyr Cove has a mile of sandy beach. There are volleyball courts, a modern playground, and a lawn area for group activities. The Zephyr Cove Resort Marina includes rentals of powerboats, waverunners, kayaks, pedal boats, and canoes. The M.S. Dixie II paddlewheel boat and the Woodwind II catamaran launch from the marina - the M.S. Dixie II holds 500 people. And sports fishing charters also are available.
